What is Insured

Property

Staffs' Personal Property

The University's policy relating to staff's personal property is that staff bring their property onto the campus at their own risk.

The exception to this policy is when the property is used by the staff member to undertake their duties at CSU with the approval of their DVC, Dean, Head of School, Executive Director or Director and final approval from Division of Finance. If such property is damaged or stolen on campus, it may be insured by CSU. Please note a $2,500 excess will apply to each claim. It is strongly recommended that staff assess their own insurance requirements for their personal property and that appropriate cover is in place with their insurer. Please note that this University insurance policy will only apply to property that is not otherwise insured.

Therefore if you require your personal property on campus to be insured by the University, you will need to;

  1. Summarise the property on the Staff Personal Assets Schedule with a replacement value indicated. All individual items over $2,500 in value should be detailed with identification (photo, serial number, brand / model etc) and evidence of value / ownership (receipt of purchase, formal valuation etc) provided. For academics holding a library of books a summary will suffice. For example 75 books @ $100 = $7,500.
  2. Arrange for your DVC, Dean, Head of School, Executive Director, or Director to approve the Staff Personal Assets Schedule and confirm these items are required by the staff member to perform their duties for the University.
  3. Forward the signed schedule to the Insurance Officer who will arrange for final approval by Division of Finance.
  4. All staff claims will require a Property Claim Form to be fully completed, signed and sent to the Insurance Officer.
  5. Staff claims will be assessed on an individual basis. All reasonable precautions must be taken to prevent and / or avoid loss.
  6. No cover will be afforded on any personally owned staff property unless all of the above conditions are met.

Students' Personal Property

Except to the limited extent that CSU's Overseas Travel  and core protection policies may apply, the University does not provide any insurance coverage in respect of Students' Personal Property. It is strongly recommended that students seek their own professional advice in relation to their personal property that may require coverage on campus or elsewhere.

This policy covers tangible property both real and personal of every kind and description belonging to the insured or for damage to which property the insured is legally responsible or which the insured has assumed responsibility to insure prior to the occurrence of any damage.
